Refurbishment of Football Pavilion, Bedford Road Recreation Ground, Sandy

Sandy Town Council congratulates Sandy Football Club on securing grant funding of 33,299 from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund for the refurbishment and extension of the Football Pavilion at Bedford Road Recreation Ground. The Pavilion is owned by the Town Council and leased to the Club. Both Sandy Football Club and the Town Council have contributed their own funds to the project to modernise and improve the facilities within the Pavilion and it is hoped to secure additional contributions from Central Bedfordshire Council to meet the total project cost of 48,299pounds.

Town Mayor Susan Sutton said â??It is very good news that the Pavilion is to have this much needed facelift. Participation in sport and exercise is so important for our community and both club members and visitors will really benefit from these improvements.â??

Work will begin at the Recreation Ground in early June and should be completed before the school holidays begin. The Pavilion itself is to be extended but most of the work will be to the interior of the building. The childrenâ??s play area will stay open throughout and it is hoped to keep any inconvenience to neighbours to a minimum.

Pavilion project receives funding boost

The Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), supporters of the Football Foundation, and the largest funder of non league football in the country, today announced a grant of £33,299 to Sandy Football Club.

This award will enable Sandy Football Club to upgrade the changing facilities for both players and match officials at their Bedford Road Pavilion building to meet the Football Associationâ??s Step 7 Requirements.

Funded with £6m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the countryâ??s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Colin Osborne, Chairman of Sandy Football Club, said: â??We are delighted with the support we have received from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund to upgrade the facilities of a building where little had been spent over the last 50 years.

â??Once completed, the enhanced facilities will benefit the clubâ??s players, visiting teams and match officials and will help the clubâ??s promotion push. We would like to thank the FSIF staff, as well as the Bedfordshire FA and Bedfordshire County Football League for their support.â??
