Pines (Luton) complete League & Shield Double
Friday 3rd May 2019.
Watson Shield Final 2018-19 Crawley Road the home of Cranfield United was the venue for this seasons Watson Shield Final between Division Three supported by Hy-Pro league champions Pines ( Luton) and Stevington Reserves. The drama was to unfold well before kick off when the Pines discovered upon arrival at the ground that they had forgotten to bring their kit which neccessitated a quick dash back to Luton for the said eqiupment. Having completed a league double over Stevington in comprehensive fashion most of the 135 crowd present were expecting to see another goal feast. However how wrong can you be as like their kit the real Pines didn't show up in the opening half and what little chances to opening the scoring all fell to a Stevington side who by contrast were well up for the game and were perhaps unlucky not to be ahead and the game still scoreless at half-time. The second half action saw Stevington take the lead just nine minutes in when Pines goalkeeper Scott Norton conceeded a penalty and up stepped Jamie Daniels to dish out total punishment and shoot his side 1-0 ahead and at this stage looking the likely winners. That's the way it stayed until the 80th minute when out of nothing Ryan Smith hit the levelling goal and just when it seemed we were heading for a penalty shoot-out and four minutes into time added on up popped Smith again to bag the winner to break the hearts of a Stevington side who few amongest the crowd didn't believe at least they deserved the chance of a dreaded shoot-out to settle the outcome. Saturday 4th May 2019 Premier Division supported by Sportsform The lone Premier Division supported by Sportsform action to conclude the 2018-19 season saw Wilstead run out 6-2 home winners over Crawley Green Reserves. Division One supported by O'Neills The 2018-19 season was to conclude by Henlow lifting themselves into the top six with a 6-3 victory at Sandy who were suffering their twentieth defeat on the bounce. Ryan Lamond with a brace plus single strikes from Charlie Williamson, Sam Crow, Dan Wilson and Matt Rumberlow marking their scoresheet against home goals via Sean Duignan twice and Jamie Stack once. Division Two supported by Hy-Pro Having been crowned Division Two supported by Hy-Pro champions in mid-week Elstow Abbey were to suffer their first defeat in 10 outings when beaten 4-2 at Sundon Park Rovers who were duly taking their unbeaten home ways up to seven games.
