Action this weekend got underway on Friday evening when under the floodlights at Potton United before a crowd of 165 Thurleigh lifted this seasons Bedfordshire FA Junior Cup with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win over CS Rovers after the normal 90 minutes play had saw the sides deadlocked at 0-0. In the opening 90 minutes perhaps the man of the match tag belonged to Rovers goalkeeper Sean Green who made two outstanding second half saves to keep the Villagers at bay then saw his performace rewarded when another long range effort came crashing back off the crossbar. Whilst at the other end Rovers enjoyed plenty of activitity in the Villagers penalty box without really making their goalkeeper Brody Willerton earn his corn.

So now it was down to those dreaded spot kicks to find out would it be Green or Willerton who become the games real hero. First up and succesful was the Villagers old war horse Kevin Harris who being just three months short of his 57th birthday laid claim to being the oldest player to score in a Junior Cup Final if you reject the opinion of those who say a penalty spot kick goal is not really a goal, rather like saying Brexit means we are not coming out of Europe I say. Rovers Shane Robb quickly made it 1-1 before Bradley Raines put the Villagers ahead at 2-1. It was then first blood to Willerton saving the second Rovers effort from Kevin Feldmann before up stepped Sam Hanmmond to make it 3-1. Rovers Ultan Coonan made it 3-2 only to see Max Wright extend the Villagers lead back to 4-2 and Rovers Chris McSwiggan cancel that out to 4-3 leaving the Villagers Alex Horn the chance to win the cup. Alas for him Green was still after that man of the match award in saving his effort to keep his sides hopes alive which grew when Connor Darocha made it 4-4 to take us into sudden death.

Kevin Evans restoring the Villagers lead at 5-4 only then for the man of the match award to become a debateable subject after Rovers sixth spot kick man Dalitso Chibwe sent his effort flying over the crossbar onto the clubhouse roof and the cup on its way back to North Bedfordshire.

Biggleswade FC Reserves are now just five points behind league leaders Bedford Albion with two games in hand after taking their winning ways up to seven games and their unbeaten ways up to 15 games plus maintaining their seasons unbeaten ways on the road when winning 2-0 at Henlow. Kian Coles shooting them ahead from the penalty spot right on the stroke of half-time before John Veal added a second goal just two minutes after the break. The home side having to play the last 30 minutes with just 10 players following a red card for Andrew Newton.

Also on the same number of points but having played a game more are third place Cranfield United Reserves who took their unbeaten ways up to seven games with a 8-1 home victory Over Christians in Sport ( Luton) Joe Sames and Jordan Conway both netting hat-tricks to go with single goals from Robbie Field and Joe Bygraves. The CIS reply coming via the penalty spot from Peter Wilson. Whilst fouth place Shefford Town & Campton Reserves were 4-1 home winners over AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves. Ryan Dodson with a hat-trick and Jack Dreyer with a single goal doing the damage against a Town reply from Perry Ronayne.

Division Two supported by Hy-Pro

Elstow Abbey are now four points clear at the head of the Division Two supported by Hy-Pro standings and still unbeaten on home soil this season after running out 7-1 winners over Marston Shelton Rovers Reserves. Jason Allison and Matt Poulton both netting hat-tricks to go alongside a single goal from Travis Joseph against a lone Rovers reply via Lorenzo Jordan. Whilst third place Sporting Lewsey Park did their promotion hopes a power of good by extending their unbeaten ways to 11 games with a 4-2 home win over Luton Leagrave AFC. Charlie Clayton netting twice alongside single goals from Luke Lincoln and James Braddon. The visitors goals coming via Lewis Bloomfield and Nico Covileac.

Elsewhere, Caldecote Reserves were 7-0 home winners over St Joseph ( Saturday) the visitors who were unbeaten in their last five outings force due to traffic problems to play the first half with just seven players in which time they conceeded five goals. Carl Heath netting a hat-trick, Jordan Platt a brace plus single strikes from Tom Wallace and Joe Baker. Whilst Kempston Athletic drew 3-3 at home against Atletico Europa. Craig Damon, Craig Cameron and Jordan Nice on the Athletic scoresheet against Europa replies via Mo Banda, Paddy Alimanji and Abuki Sulyman.

Elsewhere, Meltis Albion also drew 3-3 at home against Clifton. Stanley Gonese, Asa Garlick and Davion Anderson on the Albion scoresheet against Clifton replies via Dylan Donaldson, Liam Chalkley and Kyle Davis. Whilst a lone goal from Jordan Holmes took Sundon Park Rovers to a 1-0 victory at Black Swan ( Luton)

Division Three supported by Hy-Pro

Pines (Luton) are now within two points of lifting the Division Three supported by Hy-Pro title after netting a 5-3 home win over FC Polonia ( Luton) Alan Morris netting four times and Damien Fields once to bring up the nap hand against replies via Przemek Gorczyca with a brace and a single strike from Pawel Seliga. Whilst Stevington Reserves made it six home wins on the spin in beating Wixams Wanderers 5-1. Jamie Daniels leading the way with a hat-trick and joined on their scoresheet by single goals from Josh Crook and Jack Taylor. Tom O'Neill replying for the Wanderers.

Elsewhere, Shefford Town & Campton A were the 6-1 winners at Real Haynes Reserves. Ben Sheehan with a brace joined on the scoresheet by single goals from Kyle Crook, Jacon Jevon, Garth Head and Josh Holland against a lone home reply via Freddie Skolnivk.
