We have today received the following message from referee George Roberts and would duly like to express our sincere thanks to him for his tremendous and wonderful service to our league over the past 35 years and wish him a safe and happy move to his new home later this month. Many thanks George you will be missed by us all at the Bedfordshire County Football League.

"With the latest Government Lock Down it looks like I have refereed my last game in the Bedfordshire County League, as I will be moving to Radcliffe on Trent on the 29th January. I am very disappointed as I refereed my first game in February 35 years ago and feel that I have missed out on completing that milestone by only a couple of weeks.

I have enjoyed my time with the league and have only had a few games that I would have preferred to miss. I can also add that in all that time I only had two racially involved problems, so I do feel that at a local level players from all backgrounds play the game with a good attitude.

During my time I have appreciated all the support from the Leagues Officials and the FA in Dunstable, they all put a lot of work in that is not always appreciated by the players. Despite what many people think I do believe that players do respect the officials, although in the heat of battle they can sometimes feel hard done with some of our decisions.

I wish all involved in Football in Bedfordshire a Safe & Healthy Future, and lets hope we can get back to some normality at the earliest opportunity."

Please see below a link to the statement made by The FA confirming the suspension of matches and training in all formats. Would you kindly cascade this to all of your teams and officials if you haven’t already, thank you.

As a result, the impact on ‘non-elite’ football in England will include the suspension of fixtures and training across the following with immediate effect:

Steps three to six of the National League System
Tiers three to seven of the Women’s Football Pyramid
Regional NLS feeder leagues
Barclays FA WSL Academy League (unless under elite status)
FA Girls Regional Talent Clubs (unless under elite status)
All indoor and outdoor youth and adult grassroots football, including under-18s (except organised outdoor football for disabled people, which is allowed to continue)
Vitality Women’s FA Cup (which is currently classified as ‘non-elite’ at this stage in the competition)

Clarification, if it were needed, of the latest Government and FA statement regarding football. The League is exploring options for either completing all, or some, divisions in a meaningful way, and also the possibility of alternative competitions nearer March and April.
